Frequently Asked Questions about Invisalign®

Invisalign Logo
Am I a suitable candidate for Invisalign® treatment?

Invisalign® may be suitable for adults and teens with mild to moderate teeth alignment concerns such as crowding, spacing, or certain bite issues. A full dental examination is required to assess your suitability, as not every case is appropriate for clear aligners.

Invisalign® treatment uses a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners designed to gradually move your teeth. Each set of aligners is worn for about 1–2 weeks before switching to the next in the series. The aligners apply controlled force to specific teeth based on your personalised treatment plan.

The length of treatment varies depending on individual factors, such as the complexity of your case and how consistently you wear your aligners. Some people may see results in as little as six months, while others may require longer. Your dentist will give you a tailored estimate after assessing your needs.

Most patients experience some pressure or mild discomfort when they switch to a new set of aligners. This is usually a sign that the aligners are working. The sensation typically subsides after a few days.

You should remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water. This helps prevent staining and damage to the aligners and reduces the risk of tooth decay.

For best results, aligners should be worn for 20–22 hours per day, including while sleeping. They should only be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.

Some people notice a slight lisp when they first begin wearing aligners. This typically improves within a few days as your mouth adjusts to them.

Rinse your aligners with lukewarm water and clean them gently with a soft toothbrush and a clear, unscented soap. Avoid using hot water, as it can warp the plastic.

If you lose or damage an aligner, contact us as soon as possible. Your dentist will advise whether to move ahead to the next set, use the previous one, or order a replacement.

The total cost varies depending on the complexity and duration of your treatment. During your consultation, we’ll provide a personalised quote. Payment plans may be available to help spread out the cost.

Some private health insurance policies with extras cover may contribute towards orthodontic treatment, including clear aligners. We recommend checking with your provider, as policies and levels of cover differ.

You will typically have check-ins every 6–8 weeks. These appointments help ensure your treatment is progressing as planned and allow for any necessary adjustments.

After treatment, most patients will need to wear a retainer to help maintain the new position of their teeth. Your dentist will provide specific guidance based on your case.

As with any dental treatment, there are potential risks. These may include discomfort, minor irritation to soft tissues, or in rare cases, unintended tooth movement. Your dentist will discuss the benefits and risks with you during your consultation.

Invisalign® is one of the most widely used and researched clear aligner systems globally. Our practice uses Invisalign® due to its robust digital planning system and support. However, your dentist will advise you on the most appropriate options for your clinical needs.

Invisalign® treatment is provided following a full clinical assessment. Results vary depending on individual circumstances. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks.
Terms and conditions apply. Treatment eligibility and suitability assessed at the consultation. Invisalign® treatment is only provided where clinically appropriate. Payment must be made in full on the day of the event to receive the discount. Individual results vary.
