What causes toothaches

Common causes of toothache are usually quite serious so if you find you are experiencing a lot of pain in one or more of your teeth, it is definitely time to see your dentist! It can be caused by cracks or fractures in a tooth, decay, general tooth sensitivity or grinding/clenching your teeth.

If the pain is unbearable then you need to see a dentist immediately, there are practices that have emergency spots for patients that are experiencing this, know the dental hospitals near you or practices that have emergency appointments!

If the pain is bearable or you are unable to receive treatment immediately there are a range of options to relieve some of your pain before you can get to your dentist.

  • Using Panadol or Nurofen as directed
  • Give your teeth a thorough but gentle brush and flosh, use sensitive toothpaste particularly if you are suffering from sensitivity.
  • Use a cold compress on the area
  • Dissolve some table salt into warm water and rinse your mouth with it regularly.
