Avoiding dental problems

Good dental health is integral to overall health. Daily brushing and flossing can prevent tooth decay, bad breath and gum disease. Here are some things that you may not know about:

  • If you have diabetes you are at greater risk for gum disease because of poor healing rates.  Poor dental hygiene could make your condition worse.
  • Gingivitis (itis being latin for inflammation) can lead to bacterial inflammation. If left unchecked it could cause plaque in the arteries and potential fatal blood clots.
  • Inflammation in pregnant mothers is especially dangerous, endotoxins caused by bacterial inflammation can release into a mother’s bloodstream targeting the developing infant and may trigger premature labour.
  • Your mouth is a great place to start when it comes to early detection of disease. It is important to see your dentist and dental hygienist regularly to detect first signs of disease in the body.
